It is late, and there are parties to get to, but I wanted to take a moment to briefly post about the role the Senator Kennedy’s legacy played here on day 1 of the DNC. The Edward M. Kennedy Institute hosted a reception to honor his memory, and the list of luminaries at the podium was long and impressive: Nancy Pelosi, Chris Dodd, Vicki Kennedy, Patrick Kennedy, Tom Menino, Deval Patrick, John Kerry, and on and on and on. That doesn’t even scratch the surface of the bold face names in the crowd. The Inside Track would have had a field day!
Then this evening Joe Kennedy III took to the podium at the convention to talk about his uncle and introduce a fantastic and moving video about Senator Kennedy and his life’s work in public service. Media swarmed around Joe when he was done speaking and was circulating on the floor of the hall.
I can’t think of any other late Senator whose memory inspires such passion and patriotism. He is still making Massachusetts proud. “The work goes on, the cause endures, the hope still lives, and the dream shall never die.”
